I’m sure that by now you have heard of acai berry. There is much to know and learn about the healthy benefits of the acai berry. Acai berry is one of the elite superfoods with anti-aging and weight loss benefits. However, is there scientific evidence to support the claims of the acai berry?

The acai berry is a red/purple fruit. It comes from Central and South America. The fruit resembles a cranberry, or a blueberry.

Research on the acai berry has focused on its possible antioxidant activity. Theoretically, that activity may help prevent diseases caused by oxidative stress such as heart disease and cancer. Is the acai berry healthy?

Acai contains several substances called anthocyanins and flavonoids.

The anthocyanins and flavonoids found in the acai berry are powerful antioxidants that defend the body against stress. They also help protect the cell protection system. Byproducts produced by the body are known as free radicals. These free radicals are neutralized by eating a diet rich in antioxidants and may help with aging.

It is said that the pulp of the acai berry has a high antioxidant capacity. The acai berry pulp is said to have even more antioxidant content than the cranberry, raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, or even blueberry.

The acai berry is consumed to day to help various health conditions. So, far there have been no tests that have shown any extra health benefits that are any different than similar fruits.

Although only a few studies have been done, none of these have actually shown that acai berry promotes weight loss. Studies are still being made for the acai berry to determine if there are extra health benefits. Some of these benefits include: cancer deterrent, weight loss, brain health, lower cholesterol.

For now, plenty of research supports eating a diet rich in antioxidants. Theres no doubt that berries and other fruits are a key part of any healthy diet promoting weight loss. The jurys still out on whether there is something special about acais ability to shed excess pounds.

Attempt This Female Hair Loss Remedy

It can be disturbing and socially crippling for females to lose their hair. Those ladies who experience hair loss have particular emotional issues for the reason that our civilization places such a high regard on covered, lengthy, well-appointed hair.

At work it can be just as terrible: you may feel as if others are judging, talking about, or feeling sorry for you. Unless they experience it for themselves, no one really knows how it feels. Age, cause and the general body condition are the factors to be considered in a female hair loss remedy.

If you have some hair loss, you should visit your physician to discard any other diseases, like Diabetes. Also, if your scalp happens to be itchy and flaking, it could mean you have an infection. The good thing is that these can be taken care of quite easily.

Women who experience hair loss during or immediately following pregnancy or after surgery should not be alarmed. Chances are, these are temporary conditions and will right themselves. Poor diet and lack of exercise can be culprits as well. The important thing is to rule out any of the simpler, temporary causes and set your mind at ease.

For some, hair loss is irreversible. It is there to stay unless treatments can be successful, no matter if it’s the results of heredity or hormones. There is the availability of individual treatments in order to reduce the speed at which hair is lost and also to assist the growth of the hair which has been lost. Follow these suggestions to reduce your rate of hair loss.

1 - Shop for a gentle shampoo without any surfactants (lathering agents) as these can kill hair strands and are generally rough on hair.

Stop the use of dry heat, such as from curling irons or blow dryers, and style your hair in ways that doesn’t require any heat.

3 - Stop coloring and treating so much: these processes damage hair, and, as it is brushed or combed, greater loss will be the result.

4 - Be strict with your eating habits: balance your meals, those particularly beneficial foods include high levels of protein and natural oils.

5 - For healthy and producing follicles, more exercise is necessary.

6 - Relax. If there are things or people during the day who routinely stress you out, then add time to relax to your routine. Yoga and other meditations can greatly reduce stress levels.

7 - Try natural remedies: these include essential oils and herbs which, in various mixtures, can be spread on the scalp and help follicles to remain open and healthy.

To help slow down hair loss, and promote growth, there are a variety of pharmaceutical options. There are a number of ads for these products, many them showing various studies supporting their claims. There are some that contain both man-made chemicals and natural ingredients and that contain one or the other.

The best way to find out what kind of female hair loss remedy suits you is to experiment, so go ahead and do plenty of research. To see whether a treatment is working for you, it is important to stay hopeful since it can take up to 180 days to see results. Be sure you use female equivalents of medicines such as rogain, provillus, and propecia only for women.

Some women accept wigs and hair extensions, which can provide relief, as their permanent solutions. Surgery costs a lot, although so many do it all the time. Transplanting hair from the back of the head where it is thicker is the best solution for treating female pattern baldness. For significant hair loss, hair graft surgery could help.

Fortunately, lots of capital is being used up on this issue. To get to the bottom of a universal female hair loss remedy, far-reaching medical research is going on. There is advancement being made, and the vigilant victim of hair loss will be kept up-to-date of any novel research on a female hair loss remedy.

How Wheat Grass Juice Can Boost Your Health

Wheat grass, as the name suggests, is a grass which belongs to the family of grasses such as barley and rye which we are familiar with. The type that is used to manufacture juice is not grown outdoors but indoors on trays. Much of the dehydrated grass that is about sixty days old is mainly used in nutritional supplements.

When combined with wheat berries, the fresh wheat grass can produce a highly nutritious beverage rich in chlorophyll. This drink is believed to assist in the prevention of cancer but is known to neutralize a lot of the toxins in the body, cleanse the body and reduce the rate of ageing. A lot of people are aware of the health benefits of these juices after seeing those TV adverts for the Jack Lalanne juicer which extol the virtue of fresh juices.

The juice from wheat grass has been shown to benefit a number of medical ailments, as shown by studies performed by medical professionals. Like aloe vera, the herbal form, used as a medicine is believed to possess healing properties. If you have noticed, cats and dogs will frequently nibble grass when they feel sick or unwell, which underlies their medicinal use. When food sits in our alimentary canal it produces toxins which get absorbed into the bloodstream. Wheat grass is believed to neutralize these toxins which therefore benefits health. Wheat grass contains many enzymes which have the power to neutralize and detoxify most of the toxins and additives found in the diet.

All green plants are packed full of chlorophyll which is known to be their life blood. Most of the medical professionals believe that wheat grass should not be cooked as cooking could kill most of the chlorophyll and therefore destroy its beneficial effects on our body. Suggestions of the benefits of fresh chlorophyll comes from the observation that grass eating animals rarely get cancer. It is, however, worth pointing out that it is the enzymes in the grass that does the detoxifying in the body and not the chlorophyll.

Many people who have bought a juicer by Jack Lalanne will understand all too well the health benefits of juicing. Producing a fruit juice and adding wheat grass will give a delicious, refreshing nutritious drink. These juices are full of essential vitamins and minerals that can contribute to health.

Juices have well known cleansing effects on the body. Due to these cleansing properties many doctors advise drinking them when not feeling well. Weight for weight, wheat grass contains more protein than eggs, fish and beans and more iron than spinach. This is a relatively unknown but surprising fact.

Wheat grass could be thought of as one of the superfoods and more and more people are finding out its health benefits. Experience the wonders of this grass and try adding it to your daily diet.

How To Get The Look You Want With A 15 Minute Abs Workout

Oct 13, 2009 @ 07:45 am by Guest Author
by Gerald Holt

There’s no doubt about it, in the way our hedonistic society is structured, a well developed body is a magnet for the opposite sex and that statement is so true when it comes to developing a striking set of firm washboard abs. Because of the lack of time allowed for exercising in most peoples’ days, many folks are on the perennial hunt for a shortened version of a workout for developing those sought after abs. The following is an excerpt on how to create a 15 minute abs workout that will be effective if done over the long haul.

In order to grasp the functionality of the 15 minute abs workout and apply it effectively, you need to know and understand just what muscles are involved in operating your midsection, how they work, and just how they interact with each other. You cannot expect to develop just one group of muscles—like the abs themselves, and not develop the muscles that work with them, because you will throw off your body’s balance design. The midriff muscles involved here and the abs—–referred to as upper and lower abs for the purposes of training; the internal and external obliques, and then the lower back.

There are added benefits to having a fit and solid set of core muscles in your midsection; not only do you look good and garner admiring glances, but the added trunk power that your core has will help with more efficiency in performing weight exercises and improved muscle gain. Your performance on the sports playing field will also show a marked improvement, whether it be baseball or any other type of sport, because your delivery is much more powerful. And nothing says “look at me” more than a well developed set of core muscles and not just a 6-pack.

An effective 15 minute abs workout is quite simple in its makeup, which will give you a very targeted set of exercises to strengthen the individual parts of the midriff, and includes different types of motions so that all the muscle groups are worked one by one and then in tandem with each other. The workout will contain usually 6 types of exercises—-each one targeting a different set of muscles—starting with the lower abs to the core muscles , then the upper abs and finally the lower back; and including 2 sets for each exercise.

An effective 15 minute abs workout would include in its 6 types of exercises, the twist sequence with weights for the abs and obliques; bent leg reverse crunches for the lower abs; the 45degree side bend with weights for the lower back and obliques; those utilizing an exercise ball and doing crunches for the abs; leg lifts; and for the lower back—-hyper-extension.

The number of repetitions is important too if you want your 15 minute abs workout to work and the recommended number is 20-25 reps for each set when you do 2 sets for each exercise. Resting between sets is also an important part of the workout, and you should rest for 30-45 secs between sets. The entire repertoire should be done 2-3 times/week with a days rest in between workouts to let your body take stock, build muscle, and rest so you don’t overdo it.

Finding the needed amount of time for a good core muscle and abs workout is seemingly out of reach for most people, or so they have led themselves to believe. You can get that washboard look and strong developed core muscles with the correct 15 minute abs workout, if you just plan ahead, know what exercises are needed, and keep the routine on a set schedule. A shortened workout like this may not seem to you to be something that would be that effective, but it certainly is—-and if done properly with determination and knowledge of what the principles are——it will give you the look and strength you want in the shortest amount of time.

6 Things That Affect How Many Calories You Burn

Oct 12, 2009 @ 05:56 am by Guest Author
by Katherine Crawford M.S.

If you really want to get a lean and toned body, you have to increase the amount of calories you burn around the clock. How so? By raising your basal metabolic rate.

You might be a little confused, however. After all, every single new product that hits the market claims to be the next best thing for raising BMR.

Thus, here are 6 things that affect how many calories you burn around the clock:

1. Age. As you age, BMR goes down. Why? Because you lose muscle mass. What’s the best way to prevent this? With resistance training. A solid resistance training program will do wonders for your BMR in additional to your hormonal profile.

2. Body composition. The more lean tissue the more calories you’ll burn around the clock. Again, building lean tissue will keep that BMR full blast. And if you feed the mitochondria in your lean tissue the right nutrients, you’ll burn even more calories.

3. A high fever. A strong fever will also raise your BMR. Does this mean you should try to get sick? Absolutely not! But it doesn’t hurt to know the facts.

4. Stress hormones. The release of stress hormones, mainly from the adrenals, will also increase the amount of calories you burn. Keep in mind, however, that over the long run stress will have a negative impact through a suppressed immune system and muscle loss.

5. Going from cold to hot. Any time you go from a cold environment to a hot environment, and vice versa, your BMR goes up. Your body has to adjust to the temperature differential and you burn more calories.

6. Starvation. The hormones released from a period of fasting or starvation will lower your BMR. And this happens very quickly. So never go more than a couple hours between meals, five hours max.

Discovering how to optimize your BMR is the best thing you can do to ensure fat loss success. After all, your BMR has the biggest influence on how many calories your burn on a daily basis. So ignore the hype and stick to the proven facts.

How to Build Muscle Mass, Bodybuilding to Keep Growing

Oct 12, 2009 @ 05:12 am by Guest Author
by Ricardo d Argence

That is one of the most frequently asked questions around the world by bodybuilders. After all you are training hard, with good muscle building nutrition in your diet, yet your gains are still minimal.

This can be quite irritating and the frustration will start to set in quickly. If you reach this point you will be less motivated, which can be detrimental to your overall goals in the weight room and your body building success. We’ll give you a few answers today that will allow your muscle to continue growing.

1) Calorie intake is where it all begins, and a lack of it could be causing your loss. The best thing you can do is keep track of the amounts you take in throughout the day. So load up on high calorie meals.

The recommended eating frame is every 2 hours. If you can stick with this, we also recommend adding certain foods during snack periods. Things like yogurt, protein bars, and dried fruits are a great option. You might need a protein shake as well, or a few of them throughout the day. This way your calories will be covered.

2) Are you getting enough protein? To build muscle mass fast you should get per pound of body weight 5 grams of protein. Excellent protein sources include: chicken, fish, turkey as well as dairy products.

One thing to understand here is that you need to have excess calories so you can grow. Keep in mind you do quality over quantity when it comes to calories, but you can cut them later. If you want to make sure it’s quality protein then we recommend purchasing those huge tubs of whey protein.

3) Then of course you can’t forget about your workout. If you have spent a ton of the time in the gym doing the same routine over and over again, it’s going to create a little dullness. In fact, it could be the difference between you actually enjoying your bodybuilding workouts, or simply going through the motions to build muscle mass.

How about varying things around using, super sets, drop sets, partials, negatives and so on. You may just try doing the same routine only backwards and se how that change works, how about doing 10 sets consisting of 10 reps for just one exercise like the benchpress. How about taking a week off from your session to allow your body to completely recover. As you can see there are endless variations, make sure you use them.

4) Are you getting enough down time? When was the last time you saw someone go into the gym pump iron and then walk out half a stone heavier? Never. Clearly then you build muscle mass when you are at home and not when you are lifting barbells. You will certainly be limiting your muscle growth if you are not getting enough rest time. If anything you should be giving yourself too much time to grow as opposed to too little.

Try decreasing your session to just one workout per muscle group per week. Also decreasing the amount of sets done for each body part, try just 3-5 intense sets per bodypart per workout. Think that is not enough, try it and watch the results!

5) Is your water consumption high enough? If you don’t drink plenty of water then your progress won’t be as fast it should be. In order to grow, your muscles need copious amounts of water. Always carry a water bottle with you and use it frequently.

So take a few moments and reflect on the tips and information we’ve provided today. All you have to do is implement the ones that you haven’t considered, then just let the rest take its course.

In the end it all comes down to change when trying to build muscle mass. Any one of your bodybuilding workouts now can be useful, but adding a bit of variety can make all the difference. Now it’s time to hit the weights and utilize as many as you can.
