Blood Pressure Medications Are they the Causing of Your High Blood Pressure?
Did you know that one of the most popular and widely used medications are those used for high blood pressure? There is an obesity crisis in America. Approximately two-thirds of Americans are overweight. Living in Charlotte NC and where I have my chiropractic practice, I’ve noticed that majority of the families are living on fast food. The rate in which calories are consumed from sugar and fat is climbing at an alarming rate.
It is hard to believe that we are one of the sickest nations and have access to the best healthcare in the world. America has become an over-medicated society. A common occurrence in our society is Atherosclerosis (harding of the arteries). Another disease on the rise is high blood pressure and diabetes. With these diseases on the rise, blood pressure medication and cholesterol medication have become all too common. The endocrine glands such as adrenals and thyroids are becoming more dysfunctional due to disease from poor diet.
Use of medications is causing further deterioration of the body. The side effects of many medications can cause damage to other parts of the body. Drugs used to lower blood pressure can actually cause more damage in the long run. This is because they only mask the actual problem. Chiropractors are now seeing patients who wish to reduce and eliminate taking medications.
People are under the assumption that the blood pressure medication they are taking, makes high blood pressure go away. No, they still have it, but it is not showing due to the medications. The high blood pressure numbers are lowered by the drugs, they aren’t meant to treat the cause. The medication brings the numbers to an acceptable level. In our Chiropractic clinic, we like to find the cause of the patient’s ailments.
Whatever process that was causing the high blood pressure is continuing without being treated. This damaging process can now continue for years without being treated. The patient needs to seek out the original cause of the disease process. Often there are lifestyle changes that need to be made.
Consumption of high cost food would be a life habit to change. The high cost food requires more time when preparing. Convenience food is usually a lower quality of food. Fat calories are largely contained in meat and artificial products. If you see a large list of chemicals in your ingredients, then that is what you are eating. Food that is close to organic is what you should be consuming.
To reduce the fat and sugar calorie intake, fast food should be avoided. Fat is the substance that leads to your arteries narrowing. This is one of the major contributors of high blood pressure. Chiropractors and other doctors are now consulting with their patients about their diets.
A lot of people are surprised to find out that sugar is an inflammatory substance. Sugar causes the effect of scraping the arteries throughout the body. It stresses the adrenal glands and this increases the stress on the body. If you reduce your sugar and fat intake, this can reduce your need for blood pressure and cholesterol medication.
Most people would choose not to be on medication for the rest of their lives. Ask your doctor to help you make a lifestyle change. Seek out holistic health care from a Chiropractor to obtain a nutrition program. An important procedure for patients under proper supervision is the reduction of medication. You can find out if the changes you are making to your lifestyle are actually working with the reduction of the medication. Many of patients in our Chiropractic office are able to eliminate or reduce the use of medications and live happier and healthier lives.
